The Doña Ana Arts Council’s (DAAC) Arts & Cultural Center, 1740 Calle de Mercado, Suite D, in Mesilla, is the place to go for programs such as Get ArtRageous! two-hour art classes, cultural seminars, performing arts events, and Promoting Art in the Mesilla Valley presentations.  Wednesday, August 1, 5:30 – 7:30 p.m.

Get ArtRageous! Art Class: Painting on silk with Judy Licht.

Learn to paint on silk in a fun, two-hour class with local artist and art teacher Judy Licht.  $30 includes all materials and light refreshments.

Wednesday, August 8, 5:30 – 7:30 p.m.

Get ArtRageous! Art Class: Create earrings to wear with Aline Fister.

Make two pairs of earrings in a fun, two-hour class with local artist Aline Fister. 

$30 includes all materials and light refreshments.

 

Saturday, August 11, 4 – 7 p.m.

As part of the 10-10 Arts Hop in August, the Arts & Cultural Center will exhibit “Two Artists; Two Visions” that include the colorful photographs of Mike Stephens and paintings of Sally Quillin.

10-10 Arts Hop – 12 hours of Art in Las Cruces Every Second Saturday. 

10-10 Arts Hop promotes art viewing and activities in greater Las Cruces 10AM to 10PM with special events Every Second Saturday of the month. 

10-10 Arts Hop is cultivating the arts community with free and open to the public art exhibits, kids programming, and entertainment. Current participating galleries are University Art Gallery (10 a.m. – 4 p.m.), Cutter Gallery (10 a.m. – 3 p.m.), DAAC Arts and Cultural Center (4 -7 p.m., Rokoko Art Gallery (4 – 7 p.m.), Four Points Perspective (7 – 10 p.m. and Art Obscura (7 – 10 p.m.). 

Wednesday, August 15, 2-4 p.m. OR 5:30 – 7:30 p.m.

Get ArtRageous! Art Class: Pen and Ink with Watercolor with Teaching Artist Sally Quillin. $30 includes all materials and light refreshments.

Monday, August 20, 5:30 – 7:00 p.m. (first of a 4-part series)

FEED YOUR MIND Summer Short Course with Kathleen Key, Art Historian

“The Fab Four Artists – Turner, Singer Sargent, Sorolla and Wyeth Family”

The 4-part seminar series will be presented on Monday evenings from 5:30 – 7:00 p.m. in August and September at the DAAC Arts & Cultural Center. Cost is $50 for the 4-part series or $20 for a “drop in” fee per seminar. Register on-line at daarts.org, by calling 575-523-6403, or at the Arts & Cultural Center, 1740 Calle de Mercado, Mesilla. Refreshments will be available at 5:00 p.m. and the seminar will start at 5:30 p.m. All proceeds from FEED YOUR MIND seminars go to benefit Arts Council programs for children.

August 27 – John Singer Sargent (American, 1856-1925)

September 10 – Joaquin Sorolla (Spanish, 1863-1923)

September 24 – NC Wyeth (1882 – 1945), Andrew Wyeth (1917-2009) and other Wyeth family members (American)

Wednesday, August 22, 2 – 4 p.m. OR 5:30 – 7:30 p.m.

Get ArtRageous! Art Class: Wrap Any Stone wire wrapping with Martha Arndt.

$30 includes all materials and light refreshments.

Wednesday, August 29, 5:30 – 7:30 p.m.

Get ArtRageous! Art Class: Drawn and Decorated Letters; Calligraphy with Gail Lieurance. $30 includes all materials and light refreshments.
