The Doña Ana Arts Council (DAAC) announced that children ages 12 and under will be admitted at no charge (with an accompanying adult) for the Dale Gas! Concert and Car Show on Friday, June 22 from 5:30 – 10:30 pm at the DAAC Arts & Cultural Center, 1740 Calle de Mercado, in the Bulletin Plaza, Mesilla. Adult tickets are $15 in advance and $20 at the door.
This family-friendly celebration of the lowrider culture with a concert, car show, dance display, and photo exhibit will be held in the courtyard next to the Arts & Cultural Center. The event’s theme is “Dale Gas!,” which translates to “give it gas” or “step on it!” It begins at 5:30 p.m., with a popular cumbia band from Mexico, Jarabe Mexicano, performing from 8:30 to 10:15 p.m. The NMSU DanceSport team will be on hand performing and getting people out on the dance floor. Two car clubs, The Imperials and the Good Times Car Clubs, will exhibit 15 lowrider cars. Several decorated bicycles and motorcycles also will be on display.
During the event, Mesilla Valley-area artist Luis Navarro will be showing some of his lowrider-themed art work along side the photography exhibit “Lowriders, Hoppers and Hot Rods,” on loan from the New Mexico State History Museum archives.
Ticket holders can visit the car show and photography/art exhibit and enjoy the music and dancing. Food and beverage will be available for purchase from Paisano Café in the courtyard or inside the restaurant. Tickets are $15 in advance and $20 at the door and are available at the DAAC office at 1740 Calle de Mercado, Suites B – D, in Mesilla or online at www.daarts.org.
