Doña Ana Arts Council June 2019 Calendar of Events

The Doña Ana Arts Council (DAAC) June calendar includes two summer art camps for children, the continuation of two art history seminar series, Get ArtRageous! hands-on art classes, and much more. The two summer art camps take place at Centennial High School, 1950 South Sonoma Ranch Blvd.  All other activities take place at the DAAC Arts & Cultural Center, 1740 Calle de Mercado in the Bulletin Plaza next to Paisano Cafe. June 3 through June 14, (excluding weekend of June 8-9) 9
a.m. – 3 p.m.:  Opera Storytellers Camp
with the Santa Fe Opera, two-week summer program for 3rd – 12th
grade students.  Children write and
perform an original 20 minute opera story while learning set design, lighting
design, costume design, and team building. 
No previous musical experience necessary. Cost is $300 per student, with
partial scholarships available.  The camp
takes place at the Centennial High School performing arts lab, 1950 South
Sonoma Ranch Blvd., Las Cruces.  Register

June 3, June 10, June 17 and June 24, from 3 – 4:30 p.m. or
5:30 – 7 p.m.: Parts 6 through 9 of the nine-part Feed Your Mind seminar series
on the topic of Late 19th and 20th Century Art with
Kathleen Key.  Participants may attend
either session, from 3 – 4:30 p.m. or 5:30 – 7 p.m.  Individual sessions are $20 each and the
discounted price for the full series is $90. 
Light refreshments are served.

June 5, 5:30 – 7:30 p.m. Get ArtRageous! Applying Gold Leaf
with Linda Gendall. These “make and take” art classes offer a great experience
to experiment with a new technique or improve already established skills. The
class is $35 and includes all materials and light refreshments. DAAC members
receive a twenty per cent discount. 
Dress appropriately to have fun with potentially messy art materials.

June 6, June 13, June 20 and June 27, from 1:30 – 3 p.m.:
Feed Your Mind seminar series Parts 6, 7, 8 and 9 of this nine-part series on
the History of Fashion and Fashion Design with Kathleen Key.  The series delves into fashion and fashion
design over the centuries to the present. Individual sessions may be attended
for $20 each or register for all nine sessions for $90.  Light refreshments are served.

June 8, 4 – 7 p.m.: Gallery reception for the Ten O’clock
Club during Second Saturday 10–10 Arts Hop.  Art work in a variety of 2-D and 3-D mediums by
members of the group is on display during the month of June. The artists’ reception
is free and open to the public.  Light
refreshments are served with entertainment by Allison Reynolds on guitar from 4
– 6 p.m. and by Bill Kolbin on piano from 6 – 7 p.m.

June 12, 2:00 – 4:00 p.m. 
and 5:30 – 7:30 p.m.: Get ArtRageous!  The Art of Marketing Art with Joy Miller.  Learn professional practices and the business
side of art sales, working with gallery owners, marketing on-line and more. The
class is $35 and includes all materials and light refreshments. DAAC members
receive a twenty per cent discount. 
Participants are invited to bring samples of their portfolio for tips
and insights.

June 17 through June 28 (excluding weekend) 8:30 a.m.—2:00
p.m., Career Art Path (CAP) Visual Art Camp for 5th –8th
graders.  Students explore avenues to
develop possible careers in the arts through field trips, guest speakers and
daily art lessons.  Taught by two LCPS
teaching artists.  Cost $100 per student
for the two-week camp with partial scholarships available.  Camp is held at the Centennial High School
art room, 1950 S. Sonoma Ranch Blvd., Las Cruces.  Register on line at daarts.org or call

June 28, noon to 1:30 p.m.: Promoting Art in the Mesilla
Valley brown bag educational/networking meeting for all who are interested in
the arts.  Free and open to the public.  Topic for June meeting to be announced.
