The Doña Ana Arts Council (DAAC) is partnering with the New Mexico Film Foundation to present a film business workshop by Ben Yennie of Guerrilla Rep Media of San Francisco, CA on August 17 & 18 at the DAAC Arts & Cultural Center, 1740 Calle de Mercado, Mesilla, NM in the Bulletin Plaza. The cost of the two-day workshop is $299. For more information or registration, call (575) 523-6403 or go to www.daarts.org.
According to Yennie, “Thanks to changes in Technology, anyone can make a film nearly anywhere. Film Schools can be great at helping you learn how to do it, and there are film programs in every state across the US. Unfortunately, even the best of them tend not to be great about teaching you to make money with films. If you don’t live in Los Angeles, it’s very difficult to get the information you need, even if you end up being able to make your film.”
With that in mind, the Doña Ana Arts Council and New Mexico Film Foundation are partnering with Yennie so he can work with New Mexico filmmakers individually to help them learn how to make a sustainable career in independent film. In addition to the 2-day workshop, attendees will receive downloads of 4 separate 5-hour webinars by Yennie: “Indiefilm Packaging Like a Pro”, “Film Financing FAST!”, “Mastering Movie Marketing”, and “Avoiding Distribution Disaster”.
Ben has fifteen feature film producer credits to his name and is successful in coordinating the funding and distribution of numerous independent films. Yennie officially launched Guerrilla Rep Media in 2014 with the book “The Guerrilla Rep: American Film Market Success on No Budget” that is used as a textbook in ten film schools and is now in its second edition and audiobook. Ben was featured in CNN Money, The Seattle Film Summit, Indie Film Hustle, The Movie Making is Hard Podcast, The Get REAL indiefilmmakers Podcast, The Filmmaking Sucks Podcast, the Indie Film Academy, the Deseret News, the Film Trooper Podcast, and has been a contributor to indiewire, Hope For Film.com, and Cinesource magazine.
The two-day Film Business Workshop will be on Saturday, August 17 and Sunday, August 18 from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. each day, with a one hour break for lunch. A portion of the $299 registration fee goes to the New Mexico Film Foundation. Registration is at the DAAC website https://www.daarts.org/product/ben-yennie-film-business-workshop-8-17-8-18-19/ or by visiting Hold My Ticket, by calling the DAAC office.
