Las Cruces was featured yet again for national recognition, this time in the top 11 travel destinations by the AARP Travel Center because of the city’s tributes to women in history. Mentioned was the Women Veterans Monument located in Veterans Memorial Park, 2651 Roadrunner Parkway. The article also mentioned Pioneer Women’s Park, located at 500 W. Las Cruces Avenue. This park is one of six parks identified in the Downtown, Alameda and Mayfield areas in the City’s Prescription Trails Program. Both parks are included in Prescription Trails list of 32 local areas that provide walking and wheelchair access.
“Our Women Veterans Monument is getting the attention it deserves,” said Sonya Delgado, Director, Parks & Recreation Department. “We are very proud to be the home of this unique memorial and, along with the other installations at Veterans Memorial Park, it is a destination for everyone to enjoy.” Delgado added that the monument, and Veterans Memorial Park, are gaining more national recognition every year as a significant point of interest.
