Saturday, Jan. 18

The Museum of Nature & Science, 411 N. Main St., will present “STEAMpunk – Amelia Earhart,” at noon Saturday.

Amelia Earhart, who lived from 1897 to 1937, was the first woman pilot to fly across the Atlantic Ocean on a solo flight. She pioneered aeronautical engineering for women students until her disappearance during an attempt to circumnavigate the globe in 1937.

Inspired by her work, participants will explore aerodynamics by making different kinds of gliders from different materials. Compare lift, spin, and thrust with three different designs.

“STEAMpunk” is offered monthly, highlighting the work of a historic scientist through hands-on exploration. The content and activities are intended for ages 7-12.

The program is free to the public.

The Las Cruces Museum of Art’s Artventurous program, from 10 a.m. to noon Saturday, continues its month-long series on surrealism with a program on Man Ray and a hands-on arts activity.

Stick around the museum to celebrate Winnie the Pooh Day from 1:30 to 2:30 p.m. Saturday.

Enjoy story time and hands-on crafts about the world’s most adorable, honey-loving yellow bear and his pals.

For more, visit las-cruces.org/1542/museum-of-art, or call 541-2137.

Winnie the Pooh Day will also be celebrated from 1:30 to 2:30 p.m. at Thomas Branigan Memorial Library, 200 E. Picacho Ave. The program will be in the Children’s Craft Room. It’s not an “oh, bother” kind of day, but a “oh boy!” kind of day for the whole family! All materials will be provided.

For more, call 528-4225 or 541-2137 or visit las-cruces.org/1542/museum-of-art.

Saturday’s live music schedule includes Frontera Jazz (2-6 p.m.) at Sombra Antigua Winery; Eli James Band at The Game and Chris Baker at The Game II (7-11 p.m.); Bullard Street Station at Little Toad Creek (8-11 p.m.); and solo singer-songwriter Danny Sanchez at High Desert Brewing Co. (8-11 p.m.).
