Here’s a quick look at events in Las Cruces for the weekend of Jan. 30 to Feb. 2, 2020.

Thursday, Jan. 30

Thursday’s live music schedules includes Americana country/blues from C.M. Adams at High Desert Brewing Co. (8-11 p.m.).

Friday, Jan. 31

Las Cruces Community Theatre opens its production of “Arsenic and Old Lace” at 7:30 p.m. Friday. In “Arsenic in Old Lace,” a drama critic learns on his wedding day that his beloved maiden aunts are homicidal maniacs, and that insanity runs in his family. $17 adults, $14 seniors, students and military, $10 younger than 12. Showtimes are 7:30 p.m. Fridays and Saturdays, Jan. 31 and Feb. 1, 7, 8, 14 and 15; and 2 p.m. Sundays, Feb. 2, 9 and 16.

No Strings Theatre Company’s production of Eugene Ionesco’s “The Killing Game,” directed by NSTC mainstay Marissa Bond, continues at 8 p.m. Friday. “The Killing Game” takes a piercing, frighteningly funny look at the proclivity of a small, previously comfortable community to gossip, paranoia, hypocrisy and opportunism in the face of crisis. Showtimes are 8 p.m. Fridays and Saturdays, Jan. 31 and Feb. 1, 7 and 8; 2:30 p.m. Sundays, Feb. 2 and 9; and special bargain night performances at 7 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 6t. Tickets are $15 regular, $12 seniors and students.

Friday’s live music schedule includes Malcolm Tense at The Game and Karlos y la Ley at The Game II (7-11 p.m.); Las Cruces’ own La Maldita Union at NM Vintage Wines (8-10 p.m.); and Santa Fe garage rockers Clementine Was Right at Little Toad Creek (8-11 p.m.).

Saturday, Feb. 1

The Las Cruces Museum System will host an extravaganza for the “Dinosaur Discoveries” exhibition from 9:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. Feb. 1 at the Las Cruces Museum of Art and the Museum of Nature and Science. 

First off, from 9:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. at the Museum of Art, is “Jaws, Paws & Claws.” Take a closer look at the teeth, claws and defenses of dinosaurs and compare hands-on specimens and fossil replicas. During that same time, at the Museum of Nature and Science, enjoy Virtual Reality Experiences that let guests defy time and experience a prehistoric landscape through virtual reality; some age and safety restrictions apply.

At 10 a.m., the Museum of Nature and Science will host the Artventurous program will include a hands-on arts and crafts experience for the whole family, using the art of Henri Matisse to inspire colorful dinosaur drawings. 

Closing out the day, take a Gallery Tour with the Educator at the Museum of Art from 1:30 to 2:30 p.m. at the Museum of Art, and learn more about the “Dinosaur Discoveries” exhibit.

The Las Cruces Fire Department, Las Cruces Police Department, Doña Ana County Sheriff’s Office and New Mexico State Police will join Heroes & Hoops for CARE at 10 a.m. Saturday at Oñate High School, raising money for CARE Las Cruces. The historic Rio Grande Theatre will host Remember Then… Reunion Plus at 7 p.m. Saturday — a night to remember music of the 1950s and ’60s and the music makers we love. Tickets are $25; visit riograndetheatre.org or call 541-2290.

Saturday’s live music schedule includes Line Five Band (2:30-6:30 p.m.) at Sombra Antigua Winery; Derrick Harris Band at The Game and Los Latinos at The Game II (7-11 p.m.); Rio Grande Bluegrass Band at NM Vintage Wines (8-10 p.m.); husband-and-wife Howlin’ Dog Records artists Pint & A Half at Little Toad Creek (8-11 p.m.); and TBA at High Desert Brewing Co. (8-11 p.m.).

Sunday, Feb. 2

Sunday’s live music schedule includes brunch with DJ Mischievous at Little Toad Creek (1 p.m.); Travis James Manning at Sombra Antigua Winery (2:30-5:30 p.m.) Christopher Smith-Escarcega at NM Vintage Wines (3-5:30p.m.);and DJ Johnny Kage at 575 Cruces Crafted Cocktails (9:30 p.m.).

Interested in learning about the fashion and culture of the 1950s? Thomas Branigan Memorial Library invites individuals of all ages to the Roadrunner Room at 2 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 5, to learn about “The Fabulous Fifties.” Participants will be taken back to the 1950s with music, clothing, hats, hula hoop contests, Twist lessons and more! Presented by Sheri A. Gaines. This program is free to the public.

Next Weekend: Feb. 6-9
Next weekend, visit the New Mexico Farm & Ranch Heritage Museum for its Crafts for Kids and Reading Roundup programs; stroll the First Friday Downtown Art Ramble, then view the workspaces of some of Las Cruces’ best artists during the For the Love of Art Month Studio Tours; learn about the Ritual and Traditional Folk Music and Song of Northern New Mexico with a presentation at the Rio Grande Theatre; run to support Community Options Inc. at the annual Cupid’s Chase; and watch NMSU Women’s Basketball take on Kansas City.
