Saturday, May 25
It wouldn’t be summer without the return of the annual Las Cruces Wine Festival, set for noon to 6 p.m. daily, Saturday through Monday, at the Southern New Mexico State Fairgrounds. This three-day festival features more than 100 red, whites, sparkling wines and more from winemakers across the Land of Enchantment for sample and purchase, along with live music, vendors, wine classes, contests and more. The New Mexico Farm & Ranch Heritage Museum will host its Crafts for Kids program from 10 a.m. to noon Saturday. Children of all ages are welcome to come to the museum and create their own craft to take home. In honor of Memorial Day, join us in making red, white and blue paper lanterns. The Rio Grande Theatre continues its Classic Film series with a screening of “The Sound of Music” at 7 p.m. Saturday. The 1965 musical stars Julie Andrews and Christopher Plummer. Set in Austria on the eve of the Anschluss in 1938, the musical tells the story of Maria, who takes a job as governess to a large family while she decides whether to become a nun. She falls in love with the children, and eventually their widowed father, Captain von Trapp. He is ordered to accept a commission in the German navy, but he opposes the Nazis. Sunday, May 26
Kicking off the City of Las Cruces’ summer Music in the Park series, the 2019 Mayor’s Jazz Fest is set for 6 p.m. Sunday at the Plaza de Las Cruces. This popular downtown concert features El Paso’s Noteworks, playing traditional jazz; the Special EFX All Stars featuring Chieli Minucci, Elliott Yamin, Lao Tizer and Eric Marienthal; and Contemporary Jazz Supergroup as the evening’s headliner. This event is free and open to the public.
Sunday’s live music schedule includes The Two of Us at Sombra Antigua Winery (2:30 to 5:30 p.m.); and CL Smith at Vintage Wines (3 to 5 p.m.).
