New Mexico Secretary of Agriculture Jeff Witte was in Washington, D.C. today to witness the signing of the 2018 Farm Bill. President Donald Trump signed the bill, which the U.S. Senate and House of Representatives recently passed.
“The agriculture community in New Mexico is grateful for our congressional delegation’s support of the 2018 Farm Bill,” said Witte. “The Farm Bill impacts every New Mexican through conservation, food safety, food and nutrition programs, animal health and other programs. The new provisions, such as industrial hemp production, will enhance diversification. We look forward to working with the United States Department of Agriculture on the implementation process.”
The National Association of State Departments of Agriculture elected Witte as its 2018-19 president in September. NASDA is a nonpartisan, nonprofit association which represents the elected and appointed commissioners, secretaries and directors of the departments of agriculture in all 50 states and four U.S. territories.
