The PFLAG- Las Cruces/ Dona Ana Chapter is hosting its 24th Annual Fundraiser Gala ‘A Place For Us’ on November 15 th at the Ramada Palms Hotel. The Gala will focus on the issues faced in the LGBTQ+ homeless community and raise essential funds to help support local shelters and provide a safe space for all in the community.
“In 2018 and 2019 we focused on helping the LGBTQ+ migrant community and we have been recognized at the national level for that work,” says Ryan Steinmetz, President of the PFLAG Las Cruces chapter. “In 2020 we wish to help the LGBTQ+ community that are living in homeless shelters and on the streets. According to the National Coalition for the Homeless, up to 40% of youth served in homeless shelters identify as LGBTQ+. In New Mexico 13.7% of youth from the LGBTQ+ community live in unstable housing, many of them homeless due to their sexual orientation or gender identity. We want to provide a safe environment for their future.”
Entertainment will begin with a cocktail reception from 5.30pm. Singing Out, an LGBTQ+ and allies choir in Las Cruces, will be giving a special performance. There will be silent auction and raffle, the annual apple pie live auction, and we will be announcing community and scholarship awards during the evening of events.
Ticket prices start at $40 per person, $450 for sponsoring a table. Tickets can be purchased in advance on Eventbrite until November 15, 2019. We welcome sponsors to help cover the cost of those needing assistance. For more information, visit our website at www.pflaglascruces.org or call 575-323-9375. PFLAG Las Cruces began in 1995. Co-founders Susan Brown and William Soules had family members who were LBGTQ. Wanting to connect with other family members who were struggling with finding peace and support for their loved ones, Susan and William formed the PFLAG Las Cruces Chapter.
