September 10, 2019 Carlos Arreola

The Museum of Nature & Science presents “STEAMpunk – Barbara McClintock,” at 11:30 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 21, 2019. The program is free and open to the public.

Barbara McClintock (1902-1992) received the Nobel Prize for medicine in 1983. This American geneticist studied how traits are passed down through chromosomes from one generation to the next.

Inspired by her work, participants will use microscopes to explore cell division and complete a wearable model of the structure of DNA.

“STEAMpunk” is offered monthly, highlighting the work of an historic scientist through hands-on exploration. The content and activities are intended for ages 7-12.

The Museum of Nature & Science is located at 411 N. Main Street and is open Tuesday through Friday from 10 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. and Saturday from 9 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. The museum is accessible from RoadRUNNER Transit Route 1 Stop 36. For additional information, visit the website at: http://las-cruces.org/museums or call 575/522-3120.
