The Editor’s List: Must Reads In the Newest Neighbors

July 1, 2016 Jessica Muncrief

The July/August issue of Neighbors magazine is on newsstands now! While putting this issue together, our team got to meet a whole lot of great people, try out some fun products, and visit some really cool places.

Here’s a quick list of some of my memorable moments as the editor. Pick up a copy of the magazine (It’s free! and available all over town including at our local Save Mart, Pic Quick, and Albertsons stores) to read the full stories and a whole lot more about living the good life in Las Cruces this summer!

Chance MillerWho I Met

Congratulations to La Posta bartender Chance Miller who recently won first place at the New Mexico Tournament of Bartenders in Albuquerque. He shared with us his award-winning drink recipe, along with one for an oh-so-tasty pina colada that can be made for both kids and adults.

What I Learned
1. I’ve been making iced coffee all wrong. Summer DrinksThere’s a reason the iced brew at Beck’s Coffee tastes so much better than mine. Find out the common mistake you’re probably making.

2. There is a science to packing an ice cooler. Pick up the magazine for our top tips and see which of the 5 top cooler brands gives you the most bang for your buck. And click here for the full showdown.

3. There’s more than one way to water your garden. Our resident farmer shows us his favorite way and shares with us some super simple summer drinks you can make from your own garden harvest.

WV. Romerohere I Visited

I love seeing artists in their element, so I was extremely excited when local artist Virginia Maria Romero invited Neighbors on a tour of her studio and workshop. Read the article to find out how she and her family hand built the adobe studio and find out how she literally incorporates nature into her art. When I Marked My Calendar

I’ve found some great pieces to decorate my home at the annual Franciscan Festival of Fine Arts in years past, so I’ll definitely be hitting up this year’s event on September 3 & 4 at the Holy Cross Retreat Center. Friendly people, tasty eats, and the chance to see artists in action—sounds like a perfect weekend to me!

Sherwin WilliamsWhy I’ve Gained a Whole New Respect for Sherwin-Williams
In honor of National Painting Week, staff and volunteers from our area Sherwin-Williams stores dedicated a whole day to giving our local Boys & Girls Club a much-needed facelift. Find out how they chose just the right color scheme and see if you can answer district manager Albert
Loera’s call to action. Click here to get Albert’s best advice for choosing kid-friendly paint: lascrucesmagazine.com/choose-kid-friendly-paint-colors
