Wild Weekend! List of Events Happening in Las Cruces (11-02-18, 11-04-18)

Here’s a quick look at the events going on in the Las Cruces area the weekend of  Nov. 2-4, 2018.

 

Friday, Nov. 2

The town of Mesilla hosts its annual Dia de los Muertos Festival from 2 to 8 p.m. Friday on the historic plaza. Friday includes altars, art, food, music and dancers. The candlelight procession to the Old Mesilla Cemetery will begin at 6:45 p.m. on the plaza; afterward, enjoy pan de muerto and coffee. Music from Yadira’s Acoustic Duo from 6 to 8 p.m. Free. The First Friday Downtown Art Ramble, from 5 to 7 p.m. Friday, includes art openings, exhibits, music, entertainment, open mic opportunities, shopping, refreshments and more at galleries, shops and businesses throughout Downtown Las Cruces. Performing songs from the 1950s and ’60s, Remember Then & Oldies But Goodies will take the stage of the Rio Grande Theatre at 7 p.m. Friday. Both groups, made up of talented locals, capture the genuine sound of yesteryear that all audiences of that era and contemporaries alike continue to love. Tickets are $25 per person. Friday’s live music schedule includes Verde Ale House at Red Hawk (6:30 to 9:30 p.m.); The Iveys at The Game (7 to 11 p.m.) and Stepping Up at The Game II (7 to 11 p.m.); honest and raw singer-songwriter Calista at Vintage Wines (8 to 10 p.m.); and Pecan Grill and Brewery (9 p.m.).

 

Saturday, Nov. 3

The Dia de los Muertos Festival continues from 10 a.m. to 9 p.m. Saturday on the Mesilla plaza. Saturday features altars on the plaza, Day of the Dead art and artists, food, opening ceremony by soloist Linda Goff (noon), music from LC Gents (noon to 3 p.m.) and Latin Funktion (6:30 p.m.) and performances by dancers Grupo Valle del Sol Folklorico (3:30 p.m.) and Moon Whisperers Dance (6 p.m.). A Frida Kahlo lookalike contest will be judged at 5 p.m. Admission to all events is free. facebook.com/CalaveraCoalitionNM.

Hear ye, hear ye! The Doña Ana Arts Council will host the 47th Annual Renaissance ArtsFaire from 10 a.m to 5 p.m. Saturday at Young Park. Medieval festival features two fun-filled days of food, entertainment, arts and crafts vendors, jousting, beer and wine garden for adults, royal procession and more. Admission is $10 adults. Children 12 and younger are free. For more, visit daarts.org. The fun continues Sunday.

Enjoy a break Veterans Day weekend with the Red, White and Brew Wine and Beer Festival, set for 5 to 10 p.m. Saturday on the Plaza de Las Cruces. Enjoy wines and beers from Amaro Winery, Shattuck Vineyards, Tularosa Vineyards, Noisy Water Winery, Picacho Peak Brewing, Little Toad Creek, T or C Brewing and Lost Hiker Brewing, among others, along with live music from Justin Kemp Band food trucks, vendors and more. $15 admission includes a souvenir tumbler. Saturday’s live music schedule includes Jessica Flores at Sombra Antigua Winery (2 to 6 p.m.); Sage Gentle Wing at The Game (7 to 11 p.m.) and Chris Baker at The Game II; the dark, romantic, haunting and ethereal Division of Men at Vintage Wines (8 to 10 p.m.); cosmic Americana from Three Rivers at High Desert Brewing Co. (8 to 11 p.m.); and Pecan Grill and Brewery (9 p.m.).

Sunday, Nov. 4

The Dia de los Muertos Festival continues from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Sunday on the Mesilla plaza. Sunday features altars on the plaza, Day of the Dead art and artists, food, opening ceremony by soloist Linda Goff (noon), music from Yadira del Campo Acoustic Classics (noon to 3 p.m.) and Grupo Valle del Sol Folklorico (3:30 p.m.). Highlights of next weekend — Nov. 8-11 — include the renowned Las Cruces International Mariachi Conference; A Salute to Women Veterans in downtown Las Cruces; the return of the Native American Market to Mesilla; a performance by New Horizons Symphony; the annual Centennial High School Holiday Craft Fair; and a Veterans Day remembrance in the town of Mesilla.
