“Spring returns March 19, and naturally that made us think of gathering family and friends for brunch. Our writers and photographers have done their research and offer ideas for food, cocktails, restaurants, and even homes for your next brunch. We also clue you in to Bella Cora Bakery in El Paso where you can pick up delectable French pastries, or you can even whip up their blueberry scones with the recipe in the Fabulous Foods section.“
There’s plenty of family fun in the offing for spring in this issue, too. Consider a flight over the Mesilla Valley, a trip to Rockhound State Park, or explore the final frontier at the Las Cruces Space Festival. If you’re looking for a new hobby, try aerial dance with Project in Motion or soar even higher with the Experimental Aircraft Association! Our story about the Bataan Memorial Death March, a marathon that draws marchers from around the world, introduces you to 102-year-old Bataan Death March survivor Col. Benis now a dear personal friend whom I photographed shaking hands with marchers a year before we met.
After the marchers passed by, he impetuously suggested to his grandson they march, too. They did — for over six miles! When I telephoned him for an interview at his home in Clemson, South Carolina, little did I know what would come next. Now, I am a proud member of Ben’s Brigade and will again be marching with this indefatigable gentleman as he honors those who saved his life in the Philippines
