We reached out to the local experts to find out what’s new, fresh, and popular in the Las Cruces design world. In honor of New Year’s were counting them down in no particular order. Which will you incorporate to keep your home modern and stylish?

10. Industrial Furnishings
Home Design
The rustic industrial trend that’s popular in bigger cities is now in Las Cruces. Turn to page 54 to see how one area home builder is doing this style, then head to Ashley HomeStore for modern furniture with the metal and wood elements that reflect this design style perfectly.

7. Botanical Prints

Home Design
Interior designer Melissa Oswalt of Designs by Melissa (melissaoswaltsinteriors.com) and Ikards Fine Home Furnishings says, “Botanical prints, small or large, look lovely with a natural color palette. Pair soft florals with creams and tans, then pick any color from your floral as an accent color.” For 2017, Flexsteel furniture has teamed with Robert Allen fabrics and the designs are available in town exclusively at Ikards.

6. Natural Luxury
Home Design“Mixing natural textures, like leather and fur, with a little bling is absolutely stunning, and personally one of my favorite looks,” Melissa says. “This especially works well here in Las Cruces where we can mix in the animal mounts that are in many of the homes.”

5. Upholstered Headboards
Home Design“If you are looking at sprucing up your bedroom, upholstered headboards are a hot trend,” advises Melissa. “First pick your style then your fabric. Ikards offers custom headboards from Mayo Furniture. They too have every fabric you can think of!”

4. Petite Pools
Home DesignIt’s not quite pool season, but if you don’t have one, now’s the time to start thinking about it so it’s ready to go when the warm weather hits. Frank Wells, owner of Pools by Design, says his “petite pools” are one of his best sellers in the area, especially for people with smaller yards who don’t want a whole lot of upkeep. These miniature versions are roughly 15 by nine feet in dimension and four to five feet deep.

3. Sparkling Pools
Home DesignFrank says the hottest pool trend this year is incorporating pebble-shaped bits of glass into pool interiors. “They reflect back the natural light for a look that’s a little bit sparkly, and very classy,” he says. “It’s an underwater look that we really haven’t seen before.”

2. Hygge
Home DesignHygge (pronounced ‘hue-gah’) is a Danish mindset focused around enjoying life’s simple pleasures. In the design world that translates to the comforting coziness that wood-look tiles can bring to your home. Read all about this concept at Karndean Flooring’s blog (karndean.com/en/floors/our-blog) then head over to Mesilla Valley Design Center where owner Amber Buldain can help you pick just the right finish for your home.
