Singer and songwriter Josh Grider was born and raised right here in the Mesilla Valley. Today, he lives about 30 miles north of San Antonio, where he writes music, records, and tours the country music circuit. He still visits his hometown as often as possible, most recently when he performed with wife Kristi at the Rio Grande Theatre last December.
The couple have also done two Valentine’s Day shows in years past, and Josh says it’s become somewhat of a family tradition. “We don’t get to perform together as much as we’d like to, but that’s what keeps it special,” he says. “Our annual Rio Grande Theatre shows have become something we really look forward to doing.”
Josh and Kristi are also parents to sons JJ, eight, and Evan, three. While balancing the life of a musician and raising kids isn’t always easy, Josh says he’s actually able to be home more than most people think. “What’s nice is that when I’m home, I’m home. I can take the kids to school and help make dinner. I try to be really present when I’m at home,” he notes. While he doesn’t have any 2017 performances on the books in Las Cruces yet, Josh says he’s working on adding some to his touring schedule. He’s also been spending a lot of time in the recording studio working on his newest album, Good People. “If all goes right, I hope to have it out later this year,” he says. “I think it’s going to be my best one yet. I love the songs and so far, the recording is exceeding expectations.”
