The Good Samaritan Society – Las Cruces Village is proud to announce that Marcie Palmer is the 2018 National Good Samaritan Society Way Volunteer of the Year.
In 2016, The Good Samaritan Society revised its awards program to recognize individuals who exhibit eight characteristics that are the backbone to Good Samaritan’s vision and mission statement. After reviewing over 200 nominees throughout 24 states for recognition, the GSS Way Awards are presented during the annual operations conference in Sioux Falls, SD.
Marcie Palmer is the first resident from Las Cruces Village to be nominated and named the National Volunteer Champion. Palmer joins others throughout the country that have been recognized as affecting the community around them in positive, selfless ways.
In her time living at Good Samaritan Society – Las Cruces Village, Marcie has spent countless hours serving on several committees. In addition, she volunteers her time at the Las Cruces Village library, gift store, and many other Las Cruces Village community outreach projects.
Along with spending a vast amount of her time volunteering, Marcie is also a very talented singer. She sings with a local group known as the “Young at Heart.” Each month this group sings for two assisted living facilities, as well as performing in the Stuckey Auditorium of the Good Samaritan Society – Las Cruces Village Social Center.
“Marcie is so full of compassion, energy, and is a joy to be around. It’s no wonder why she was not only chosen locally and regionally, but nationally as well!” said Joseph Gutierrez, Director of Resource Development & Marketing, “Las Cruces Village is lucky to have her as a resident and volunteer every day. She goes out of her way to make a positive impact not only in her volunteering, but also making our community more beautiful with her gardening talents.”
Marcie is known not only for her gardening talents, but is known to share home baked goods with anyone in reach. Las Cruces Village residents know that she can always be counted on when feeling under the weather with her ability to use her positivity and compassion to go the extra mile.
“It’s without a doubt that we here at the Las Cruces Village are blessed to have her as a volunteer, friend, neighbor and resident and we are thrilled to be able to recognize her.” said Gutierrez.
Marcie Palmer will be joining three other individuals from across the United States as the Volunteer, Caregiver, Employee, and Leadership Champions of 2018 at the annual operations conference in June.
